Parent Support: Become a Foster Parent
The need has never been greater, children in our state today need your help.
That's where committed Foster Parents come in. You can make a difference by opening your home to these children.
Here's how:
Contact your Local County Department of Family and Children's Services (DSS)
• Tell them you're interested in becoming a Foster Parent
• Ask for the Resource Development person in the county
• Ask this person when the next training classes is going to begin
• Schedule a time to meet the Resource Development person to find out how you can become a Foster Parent
And, there's a great need for your home to provide other services without becoming a licensed Foster Parent. With just a few steps, you can provide valuable help to Foster Parents:
Ask the contact person from The Foster Parent Association of Dorchester County how to;
• Provide food, clothing, birthday and Christmas gifts to children
• Help with children's activities, Christmas Sponsorships and other needs.
Ask your local DSS County Resource Development Person how to;
• Become a qualified temporary care provider.
• Provide places for visits
• Provide what we call respite care for Foster Children - you look after them to give Foster Parents a much needed break
And these are just a few of the ways you can help. Call your local county DSS office now to see how you can help.
